RCT*Mart Forums _ Memos to Members _ Slow Server Response

Posted by: MidwestBoyInLA Oct 18 2006, 09:00 AM

Hey everyone,

I don't know about you, but I've noticed that RCT*Mart has been really slow lately: slow to load images, slow to jump page to page, slow to open new windows for new posts/topics.

I called my hosting company last night and they tried to tell me it was my ISP provider and the Internet itself (how long it takes my computer to actually reach the servers the RCT*Mart site sits on). In short, they blew me off and told me it wasn't their servers.

However I'm not convinced.

Is anyone else having the same problems?

Please reply to this thread with any major problems you have had with the site (that could be related to slow server response). Let me know how long (roughly) it's taking for the home page to load vs. just problems with the forums, too. Also please let me know your physical location on the globe (city, state, country).

And if you know of any tools that actually measure server response, please let me know too, so I can run it periodically and show them that it's not just my computer. smile.gif

Thanks!

The time of day I'm on the computer seems to effect response time but I've not had any problems lately. I have a cable modem that runs pretty quickly.

Yeah, I've definitely noticed the slow response the last few days too. REAL slow loading pages, switching topics, loading pics etc. Thought it was my comp or having open pages in the background but, I DID notice that it only seemed to happen here at the Mart. I'm on a DSL line in So Cal if that's of any use to you.

Hope you resolve this for YOUR sake, it's a mere annoyance to me.

Best of luck,

K0NG

BTW, today the entire site SEEMS to be loading normally. And when the site has been slow, the home page has been EXTREMELY slow but, I'd guess that's due to all the banners and such.

I've been having slow server time lately as well. I'm in SoCal as well, so it may just be a local thing.

I haven't had any problems, & I'm on dialup. Nothing this morning either.

Central Florida, Noon @ this end. I noticed a recent lag in loading, even though I'm on a DSL. It was like being back on dial-up. But today it seems alright. If you ask me, this is a line of **** that they hand out to their clients so they'll go away, while they scramble to figure out why it was so sluggish. But it's gone now. Must be a temporary infliction.

I've noticed its been slow for a while now, been gtting afew time-out errors as well, when all other sites are fine.

So, yes, it has been sluggish for me

I use a Trend Micro PC-cillin firewall. It detected a SQL worm from this site, but unfortunately I don't know how to work the program to recover information on this. I'll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

I've noticed, since these snowflakes have been falling, that the pages are loading slower than usual. Also........if you minimize the page and open another page, THAT page takes a LOT longer to load as well. Just my two cents........................

While the 'snowflakes' look great & get the forums in the Holiday spirit, they are causing havoc with the page loading times on my 'dial-up' at home. I've even noticed a slow down here at work on DSL. I guess every good thing has a down side. banana-shrug.gif

Oddly the snowflakes really slowed down my comp at first, but once I let them run for a second, everything just runs like normal for me.
