We here at RCT*Mart would like to plan a new competition. What we want to do is have group park competitions. However before we start doing something like this we would like to gather some input from everyone here. The other thing that we are looking to know is if you wanted to pick your group or if you wanted to be assigned to a group.

Either way would be fun but I think assigned groups would be more fair.

I'd say assigned groups would be good, its a means of people getting to know other people. However, there is a distinct downside. If someone doesn't do their fair share in a group competition, then what would happen? Or if they don't like the way a park is progressing?

It couldn't really be something that would take a month either, as there'd have to be a huge amount of organisation before hand to make sure the group, and each individual knows what they are doing and there will be minimal disagreement.

This sounds sort like a UCES thingy. I like it! I like the idea of being assigned to a group, but Josho has a point. What if someone doesn't do their fair share or drops out? blueornament.gif

I agree that assigned groups would be more fair.

A couple ways of doing it could be:
1. Similar to Leonardo's "Chain Park" from the Atari forums where the group has their own section to theme as they like. With this method, you can do it one of two ways, when the first person is done with his or her section, pass it on to the next person, or the first person only does a portion of the section, then passes it on to the next and it goes round and round until everyone's section is done.

2. The members of the group takes turns building a ride/food court, but not limited to sections. Of course, there would have to be other rules or limits about how many of any given type of ride an individual member could build.

I'm sure there are other ways it could be done too, but these are just suggestions.

I also participated in Leonaro's "Chain Park" and had great fun doing it, but like pnkfloyd mentioned it took a lot of time (about 2 1/2 months just for the first go around.)

I picked 'assigned groups' because I felt that might be fairer and would allow new members (who may not know many other members) a chance to compete. Josho has a good point though because these types of parks need everyone to be committed to completion. In the past two coaster competitions a number of entries drop out and that could ruin a team's chances.

That said, either way is cool with me.

I can see the fun it picking your on teams. This would probably require rankings however to balance the teams off (eg better designers would cost more than not so good designers and you would have a limited budget). However rankings will probably upset people who think they deserve to be higher or people who think certain people on the list and would probably end up being more hassle than it's worth. So I say assign the teams, which will probably be a hassle in itself and have a couple of stand by members to jump in if someone drops out.

You could do a draft if you have enough people enter. Pick team captians and then have a private draft where they pick from the entrants pool. This would probably only work if you have at least 4 people in each group.

I like the assigned member thing. I get along with everyone on the mart very well and a group project with teams would be very fun. It would be just like little school projects with partners and stuff. Sounds exciting. happy.gif
